The new Urban Composter bokashi bucket has some clever attributes to help you compost more.
Completely air tight so no smells or flies and looks great in any kitchen setting. All types of food scraps can be added including greens, meat, fish, citrus, dairy, coffee grounds, wilted flowers, egg shells and more. Turns organic scraps and leftovers (including meat) into nutrient-rich fertilizer right in your kitchen, with no bad smells!
The Urban Composter is an anaerobic composting system that uses microorganisms to ferment food scraps so they can quickly break down when buried into soil. The result is a rich & nutritious soil conditioner.
The Urban Composter includes:
- 1 x Urban Composter bucket made from recycled plastics
- 1 x Compost Accelerator spray
- 1 x Compost Accelerator refill
- Instructions.
The Urban Composter system applies the Bokashi micro-organism from a spray bottle, so there is no need to cart around and store the sawdust/grain option that is used as a carrier for the micro-organism. That said, you can use either form of Bokashi powder or spray bottle with either system.
you are making a difference:
- Return your food scraps to the earth to enrich the soil, reduce waste and reduce carbon emissions.
how does it work:
- Cut up your food scraps and throw them into the Urban Composter bucket.
- Spray Compost Accelerator onto the scraps every time they are added (recommend 4-5 sprays evenly over scraps). Bokashi grain mix can also be used if desired.
- Push scraps down to compact the layers each time and ensure lid is sealed.
- In just a few days you can drain off the soil conditioner from the tap.
-
When the bucket is full, simply drain all the remaining liquid, dilute it and add to plants. Dig the remaining pulp into some soil and leave it to settle for 6-8 weeks.
-
The treated soil is ready to spread on the garden, top dress your lawn or add to your plant pots for some great results.
- When emptied clean only with fresh water and vinegar as this won't harm microbes inside composter.

Brand story
Luke Gregory designed the Urban Composter while studying Industrial Design at university. Luke is passionate about the environment and wanted an easy way to stop food scraps going into landfill.
He didn’t like the fact that most bokashi systems aren’t where you need them. Most people don’t want bokashi composting systems in their kitchen, near food. Luke felt that if people could compost kitchen scraps in their kitchen, using a simple system, more people would do it.
Luke researched an entirely new anaerobic composting method that didn’t require bokashi bran and discovered that he could use a citrus-based spray with Effective Micro-organisms to start the composting process.
Now Urban Composters come in two sizes, and (as well as the spray bottles) are made from recycled plastic. Has composting ever been this easy?

Reviews!
- GRGlenn R.Verified BuyerI recommend this productRated 5 out of 5 stars9 months agoFrom 1 bucket to 6!
We started Urban Composting in a one bedroom unit on the northern beaches of sydney. years later we live in a house with a garden and we have 6 buckets and a bathtub with soil, all at different stages of the bokashi process. Love it. We grow and eat a lot of fruit and vegies and it's so satisfying to know the waste is going back into nurturing the next crop. It feels like a respectful way to demonstrate care for the world we are leaving behind for young people. If you are wondering whether to give this a go, I highly recommend it.

It’s easy to use, even our 5y old can do it without any issues, no stinky smell and the plants love the juice. Buying them is a no brainer!

I am really happy with this! It has been simple to use and I can really put a lot of food scraps into it. It's great to see less going into the bin. A great option for us as it is easy to clean and move.

I bought this starter kit and already have almost a litre of bokashi juice after only a couple of weeks! I love that you don’t have to be fussy about what you put in the composter like you do with regular compost. When the package arrived the lid had come off the accelerator spray and leaked through the packaging, and part of the plastic lid had chipped off in shipping, but I emailed Biome and they were very quick to send me a replacement for both parts. Excellent customer service!
