  • Made in Australia
Orange Oil is 100% plant based and food safe, contains no silicone and smells wonderful. Based on a natural solvent made from crushed orange peels, this superb, rich oil is incredibly versatile and suitable to use on a variety of timbers, bamboo and cane to nourish and rejuvenate tired, dry fibres. It will darken the surface as if it were wet but does not colour or tint and smells like freshly-peeled oranges. It is 100% natural; good for your furniture and good for the earth. For a high sheen finish, coat with Gilly's Food Safe Wax.

Features

Use For:

Timber furniture.

Cane & bamboo.

Antiques.

Kitchen utensils.

Chopping boards.

Children’s toys.

Under side of draws/tables.

When a timber surface is oiled, it will naturally darken. This effect will also enhance the patterning of the grain, which improves the depth in a beautiful way. The citrus solvent carries the rich oils deep into the dry fibres, nourishing from within, preventing splitting and cracking. The oils will only buff to a soft matte sheen. For those who wish to add a high sheen finish, we recommend coating with Gilly's Food Safe wax.

Care & Use

Surface Preparation:

Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application. An all purpose cleaner will do the trick.

How to Apply:

1. Apply with a soft cloth (or brush for carved/irregular areas).

2. Let it absorb into timber for 5 minutes, before buffing back with another clean cloth.

3. Apply 3 coats, if timber is new or dry, repeating the same procedure. Subsequent coats can be applied straight after buffing. Each timber will vary in porosity and dryness, so the number of coats required will vary. Once timber is saturated, there is no need for any more. Take care not to over-apply; residue can become sticky and attract dirt.

Dry Time:

Dry time between coats is 5-10 minutes to allow oil to soak in. This oil essentially remains in the timber keeping it nourished. It will not ‘dry’ in the same way a varnish or tung oil formula would.

Circular life

Reuse, refill or recycle the bottle.

Brand story

All Gilly's products stocked at Biome contain no petrochemicals.  They are made from plant oils, a natural solvent made from crushed orange peels, and some have beeswax.

Do I need an oil or a wax?

Oiling is the easy go-to, particularly if you don't require any sort of sheen or mechanical protection. Oiling moisturises the timber to stop cracking and warping. It is brilliant for wooden and bamboo chopping boards and grazing platters, or rougher timber as waxes tend to get caught in rogue fibres.

Use Liquid Beeswax (a rich blend of plant based oils, citrus solvent and beeswax with a subtle citrus aroma), or the vegan Chopping board oil

Waxing is a more involved process, that gives an extra layer of protection to seal in the nourishing oils. First you oil to hydrate, allowing the wood to dry thoroughly, and then apply fine layers of the Food Safe Wax buffing and drying in between.

Use the two step process of oiling then waxing, to nourish and protect wooden and bamboo cleaning brushes and children's toys.

    a gleaming finish

Gilly's Australian Orange Oil is a fine product for our timber counter top. It's restorative and rich, giving our Eastern mahogany the care and protection it deserves. I recommend it thoroughly.
