Care & Use

1. Collect small sticks, bark and other kindling. The smaller the better, as it will be easier to light.

2. Arrange into a small pile.

3. Take out your Swedish FireSteel or Swedish FireKnife, with a built-in FireSteel.

4. Use paper, birch-bark or ideally take out your TinderSticks or Tinder-on-a-rope, made from farmed Honduran pine, scrape some shavings and arrange them among the kindling. With 80% resin, it is the optimal ignition fuel that will burn extremely hot and slow – and can also withstand moisture and water.

5. Carefully build up the fire, first with small sticks and then gradually increase its size. Ensure the fire has enough oxygen and be patient.

Circular life

Stainless steel and aluminium can be placed in kerbside recycling bins.

Brand story

Light My Fire's central purpose is to 'create products that reconnect us with nature.'

Their founder, Michael Odqvist, was inspired in 1995 by the Guatemalan method of making kindling sticks from the stumps of felled pine trees. Establishing a relationship with the locals, Michael launched the MayaSticks in Sweden. Paired with their FireSteel product (inspired by the Swedish Army), it was a raging success.

Today, Light My Fire manufactures and sells from their very own factory in Sweden. Stocking every product you could possibly need to connect with nature, from eating utensils and robust tableware to fire starting and cooking equipment, they provide thoughtful, practical and sustainable solutions to every challenge faced by campers, hikers and travellers all over the world.

"From family grills in city gardens to cooking on the peaks of mountain ranges, our dream remains the same: To enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, to think of generations to come, to encourage the exploration of forgotten skills and to rediscover the art of fire."

    Big hit with my fella

Well my man just loved this firesteel and spent a whole lot of time striking it just to see the sparks and marvel at its effectiveness! He promptly put it in his pocket and takes it to work with him in a commercial kitchen for goodness sake. He's looking forward to using it when he goes bush as he can never find his matches.

    Steel trying…

Great fire steel. Thank goodness it’s got 10,000 strikes because it will probably take my son that long to get a fire going.
